Would some of these other tournament formats help to make the club more fun?
Big Bass Tournament - Only one fish allowed per person; possibly a good option at Hazel Creek
4-pound test tournament - We had one of these in the University of Illinois bass club and it was a lot of fun. It is definitely a challenge if you get a big bass or are around heavy cover.
Bracket head-to-head match tournaments - Random draw for bracket placement. We could limit each round to either 2 or 4 hours and play them out over the course of 1 or 2 days.
Hole course tournaments - This might be a good option on a small lake like Show-me. We could set up numbered orange cones on the bank with ski buoys (around $5 each) to divide the lake up into "holes". The imaginary line between the cones and buoys would serve as the boundary line for the boat. We could make copies of the lake map with each hole shown and a rotation schedule on the back.
"Tri-Bass-lon" - Same weekend as the NEMO Triathlon. Award points for 3 criteria:
1. Biggest bass
2. Smallest bass (allow fish under the slot limit for this)
3. Total weight (The small bass included in this limit would definitely make it interesting!)
Classic Tournament - for top finishers in the points with the location voted on after the season ends. We could have it in the fall or first thing in the spring. We could also make it a bracket tournament or a hole tournament.
I like the idea of having a "Small Bass" award at the tournaments. I think this would be a lot of fun for those of us that don't end up culling through 3 pounders all day long. We could give away a key chain or something small like that.
